FAQ

PRODUCTION TYPE:
JFA is a well-designed TV studio and office space that houses our production company. We take exceptional care of our facility, stage, floors and equipment. While we enjoy sharing this space with other productions, we may choose not to work with productions that involve visual effects, complicated sets, smoke, dust, water, animals or anything that is potentially messy or damaging. We do not allow “unscripted” actions that are potentially destructive, such as breaking or throwing objects, or smashing objects on the floor. We are also not open to productions that permit or involve full or partial nudity, indecency, or sexual activity on set. For these reasons, we require a very clear understanding of your production logistics before booking and may decline your request if it isn’t the right fit. We appreciate your understanding!
CREW SIZE:
Our studio is best suited for groups of no more than 25 people. For any rentals larger than 25 people, we can discuss the production in more detail and provide a custom quote.

If you have visited our location and intend to book, we can offer a 24 hour soft hold for your desired dates. This hold will be removed without notice after 24 hours. Please note that reservations are only guaranteed once JFA has received your signed contract and 20% deposit.

Any changes or cancellations made within 21 days of your scheduled rental will result in a 20% fee (i.e. your non-refundable deposit). A cancellation or change within 7 days of your rental will result in a 50% fee due to the loss of business caused. We appreciate your understanding of this policy.

We allow one location scout per client. However, we do ask that you be sensitive to our time and come prepared with questions and the appropriate personnel. Please note that all visits must be scheduled ahead of time, as we are a working facility and committed to the privacy and focus of our clients. You may reach out to us any time via email, phone call, or text to schedule your visit.

We understand it is a bit unusual, however, we now require a two-day minimum for all rentals. This is due to the ongoing nature of the programs currently utilizing our studio, and whose staging must remain unmoved. Deconstructing a set for a one-day shoot then reassembling it the following day is a very time-consuming process, which is simply not cost-effective. We will, however, consider a one-day rental if the request is sent within 5 days of the desired production date, and if scheduling and set requirements can be accommodated.

Most or all of the stations in our control room are used daily by our in-house staff of video editors. However, if you have a large production and anticipate needing more space, we highly recommend renting the entire Control Room as an Add-on. To view details and pricing for this option, please visit our ADD-ONS page.

The fact is that whether you’re filming, prepping, striking, staging, or holding the days in between, we can’t rent the stage to anyone else while you’re there. For this reason, we cannot offer any discount for prep days. In the case of multiple setup days or dark days, we may be able to apply some discount on a case-by-case basis.

You can download our general floor plan here (Floor Plan- Basic). If you need more details on the lighting grid and black curtain, then you can use the following (Floor Plan- Complete).

The measurements of our green screen can be found on the SETS page. Our green screen is attached to a motorized retractor and hung directly above our white cyc. It has been used for hundreds of commercials and interviews, including a program with Senator Ron Paul. (examples here.) However, due to the size of the backdrop, we recommend only utilizing our green screen for two-person interviews and simple set ups. If you are planning to shoot 3+ multi-camera or complicated visual effects content, we would recommend other studios in the area that would have large two wall cyc and will be better suited to your needs.

The measurements of our two-wall white cyc can be found on the SETS page. It is always clean and ready for use. The floor section is portable and can be rolled back, allowing the stage to be used for wider shots revealing the black floor if desired. If your production does require floor shots, we will need advance notice, so we can clean or repaint the floors accordingly.

JFA Studio is an approved production facility in Burbank (view permit) which means it meets Burbank city's fire code requirements and there is no need to obtain a film permit from the city of Burbank, unless the production involves larger groups, live audience, VFX, etc. Another advantage of using JFA for your filming, would be the tax cuts and bonus points that some production companies benefit from, or for the film students at educational institutes, such as NY Film Academy, who are required to film their student project at only certified stages.

JFA Studio has one stage only. Because of this, only one group can be working in the studio at a time.

Other than the current fixed sets in the stage (this includes brick wall, white cyc and green screen) all other sets or major props are available at an additional cost. For more information on props and furniture pricing, please visit the ADD-ONS.

Each renter is expected to provide Production Insurance with JFA Studio listed as a certificate holder. For more details, please download and read the Insurance section of our rental contract, available here.

The studio has 200 amp power, supplied by wall outlets in 200 amp circuits. Additionally, 400 amp "single-phase" power is available and distributed to 48 Edison outlets (15 amp each) on our lighting grid. If your production requires using a distro box and cam-lok connections to our panel, please make sure to view our (Electrical Panels) document.

Under certain conditions, we will allow a small to mid-size vehicle inside the studio. However, we will need more details about the production before accepting your booking.

As much as we love animals, JFA Studio is not an animal-friendly facility. This applies to personal pets, as well as on-camera talent/animal actors. ADA-qualified service animals are an exception when accompanied by a person with disabilities. In these cases, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls, and the animal must be leashed/tethered at all times. (Please note, animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.)

Your rental includes a private lot with 8 parking spaces. There is also ample street parking on Lima St (particularly before 8 am) and plenty of more parking spaces on San Fernando Blvd, only a brief 1-2 minute walk from the studio.

Our stage walls are treated with multilayers of sound board and blankets, providing an echo-free space for optimal sound results. While we are close to the Burbank airport, our building is not in the flight path of the runway and is therefore not at all impacted by planes taking off or landing. (Of course there have been rare occasions of unforeseen and unpreventable noise pollution from police helicopters or city construction, etc.) Based on the feedback received from top soundmen, JFA Studio is their ideal stage for sound recording in the Burbank area. To date, thousands of hours of content have been recorded at our facility for national TV programs and major networks.

JFA Studio is a working production company and we are proud to offer a variety of service options - from stage rental only, to providing additional crew members to work alongside your team, to taking on complete production responsibility! Our staff has worked side-by-side with major networks, including Twitch TV, Fox News, CNN and Disney, and has done A-Z production for clients including Innovative Skincare, The Voice Place, and others. Please visit our SERVICES page to see our demo reel.

Due to space limitations, we are not open to any production that requires audience seating. Large numbers of people onset require the presence of the Burbank Fire Marshall, renting portable restrooms and other special accommodations. However, we are open to discussing the particulars and providing a quote if the project is deemed an overall good fit for our studio and schedule.
